System Engineer Virginia

2HB Incorporated is seeking a Systems Engineer in order to support its government customer based in Chantilly, Virginia.


The US Government’s  (USG) Information Technology team provides operation and maintenance for a complex global multi-site Local Area Network (LAN) and Wide Area Network (WAN).  The USG requires support specializing in the operation and maintenance of the LAN and WAN infrastructure.  The USG seeks polished skills in design, implementation, testing, and troubleshooting for short-duration network improvement projects that require knowledge and skills using a mix of different vendor hardware, networking/security protocols, and software management configurations.  The work will be done in a team environment.
 

Work requirementS

Windows Systems Engineering 
  • The Candidate shall work on a small team responsible for operation and maintenance (O&M) of a medium-sized integrated information system (IS).
  • The Candidate  shall serve as the primary POC when installing, configuring, testing, and maintaining software and hardware related to Windows services / functions; to include Windows Server 2016/2019/2022, Windows 10 client, AD, WSUS, and GPO.
  • The Candidate shall perform related software updates and upgrades.
  • The Candidate shall maintain related system documentation such as Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs)s, job aids, or similar
  • The Candidate shall create and maintain current knowledge of Windows-related trends and issues including current emerging technologies and best practices.
  • The Candidate shall act as a technical consultant.
  • The Candidate shall provide Tier 1, Tier 2, and Tier 3 level support for incident or problem management, in relation the Sponsor’s specific mission system, as needed.
  • The Candidate shall work with Tier 4 support, vendors, and other IT personnel for problem resolution.
  • The Candidate shall participate in the design, installation, configuration, testing, acceptance, and documentation for information system changes to hardware and software.
  • The Candidate shall help the organization meet KPI and SLA requirements by proactively monitoring the information system logs and alerts.
  • The Candidate shall ensure Backups and Disaster Recovery operations are successful.
  • The Candidate shall test application performance for potential bottlenecks, identify possible solutions, and work with developers to implement fixes.
  • The Candidate shall assess system loads and work with tech lead on developing tuning recommendations.
  • The Candidate shall write and maintain custom PowerShell scripts to increase system efficiency and lower the human intervention time on any tasks (for example automate O&M tasks and patching).
  • The Candidate shall support information system ATO requirements by participating in security audits or scans and remediation’s.
  • The Candidate shall participate in new user requirements service requests process such as technical exchange meetings, design reviews, management briefings.
  • The Candidate  shall assist with VMWare and occasionally with various other client-based applications in a Windows or Linux environment.
  • The Candidate shall travel periodically to perform duties. Estimated travel is twice a year to both US and overseas locations.

required skills and demonstrated experience

  • Demonstrated experience understanding ITIL Framework relating to Incident, Trouble, and Service Management.
  • Demonstrated experience with Windows 10, Windows Server 2016 and higher.
  • Demonstrated experience with Microsoft SQL Server/DBA, WSUS, and SCCM.
  • Demonstrated experience with Dell Unity and NAS storage technologies.
  • Demonstrated experience with VMWare virtualization technology.
  • Demonstrated experience with Scripting and disaster recovery.
  • Demonstrated experience managing and maintaining servers, laptop, desktop, and printer hardware.
  • Demonstrated experience using TCP/IP, SSL, Power Shell, and SSH.
  • Demonstrated experience with DNS, DHCP, IIS, Group Policy, AD/LDAP, KMS, Registry and File System Security
  • Demonstrated experience with Endpoint Security and Remote Server Mgmt.
  • Demonstrated experience and in-depth understanding of Active Directory in a multi-site domain
  • Demonstrated experience understanding security baselines such as NIST, DISA, or FIPS.
  • Demonstrated experience applying efficient task management and ability to adjust to changing requirements.
  • Demonstrated experience creating and maintaining system documentation.

Highly Desired skills and demonstrated experience

  • Demonstrated experience in Windows and Linux operating system security
  • Demonstrated experience with intrusion detection (logs), firewalls, SSL, VPN’s, risk analysis, IDS / IPS configuration, monitoring, and optimization, security auditing and threat analysis.
  • Demonstrated experience with Splunk, Qumulos, Solarwinds
  • Demonstrated experience with standardized orchestration and automation tools
  • Demonstrated experience using 2FA (two-factor authentication).
  • Demonstrated customer service, interpersonal skills, and working as part of a team.
  • Degree in Computer Engineering, Computer Science, or related field and experience commensurate with the requested Level in system’s administration; or if no degree equivalent experience in system’s administration within the requested Level.

    • COMPTIA related certifications (Server+, Network+, Security+)
    • ITIL
    • MCSA
    • Microsoft Certified Solutions Expert (MCSE)
    • Microsoft Office Specialist (MOS)
This is a full-time position, and MUST HAVE a TS/SCI/Full Scope Polygraph Clearance.
